The Origin Park Event Center is part of the first phase of a new, 430-acre park in Clarksville, Indiana that will rehabilitate and transform an expanse of waterfront lands into a rich cultural and civic asset. The 13,880 SF building will allow for a variety of events and meetings and can be demised into two, large meeting spaces. The building will also provide offices and meeting space for the River Heritage Conservancy, a non-profit organization that envisioned the project and that is dedicated to implementing and managing a world-class park system along the shoreline of the Ohio Riverfront.
The concept for the form of the building is two overlapping leaves. The sustainable building includes a glulam structure, which minimizes the project’s carbon footprint and highlights the design intent to use natural, and renewable materials. Large limestone walls extend from the building to define the entry and form the walls for the lobby. Storefront glazing systems with operable windows are used to provide daylight, views, and natural ventilation. The curving, metal roof is highly insulated to minimize energy use. Roof-mounted photovoltaics produce renewable energy and significantly reduce the building’s operational carbon. Water is captured and showcased in water features on both sides of the southeast elevation. The site design will seek to regenerate and reforest the landscape, which has been dramatically shaped by human intervention and the forces of nature. The project will also celebrate the land’s rich ecological and cultural legacy, which dates back to Indigenous communities.
